Accessible updates and going on strong.

It has been two years since my last post. A lot has happened, private and business wise. Two years ago we could imagine the ride we have been thru, the trips we have made and the life time experiences. But with two wheelchair accessible pool villas in Hua Hin, Thailand close to restaurants, shopping mall, beach and so on we know for sure you will have a great holiday. And we still enjoy to welcome and spoil you.

Hua Hin airport transfer to Bangkok Thailand with ramp access.
Wheelchair accessible van with lift.
Bangkok airport transfer for disabled wheelchair users.
Accessible van with ramp access.

We didn't expect at all to buy a second car for the transport of our disabled guests. So next high season 2 accessible vans are running to service the needs of the wheelchair users in our accessible pool villas. For instance. An airport transfer at the same time as a day at the beach trip. Or a delicious vineyard lunch or a visit to Sam Roi Yot National Park. Our first van has ramp access and the new van has a wheelchair lift. This combination makes it possible to transfer people with different disabilities and all kind of wheelchairs, scooters, etc. Q-straint tie down systems and seat-belts make transfers safe for all passengers. And more important we can transport and accommodate groups up to 12 people with these vans and houses.

Another improvement is the second beach wheelchair. Our guests love to visit the beach and for most of them it has been ages since they have been into the sea.

Did you see our Youtube movies? Or the pictures on our website? Have a look at both. Because with the service level in our houses and the provisions for disabled people we are the only one still standing in Hua Hin, Thailand due to hard work and personal commitment.

Disabled holidays; sun and rain in Hua Hin

When I am planning our holiday I always take the weather into account. I love sunshine and warm weather. So I like to travel to warm places with lots of sun in the European winter. But when you are living in Australia you probably like to travel in the Australian wintertime, summer in France and rainy season Thailand.

Since I have travel often to Thailand I have experienced all seasons here, winter, summer and rainy season. And surprisingly I found the rainy season not that bad. Most of the time it rain is short heavy showers, sometimes with a lot of wind, but never a hurricane. I'm used to a humid climate in The Netherlands and cold rain. In Hua Hin, Thailand rain is always warm. You get wet, but not cold.

When you plan your holiday it mostly depends on holiday season, school holidays and so on. To help you to find the ideal weather you can consult climate in Hua Hin or any other climate website on the internet.

Love, date without boundary in Thailand.

Disabled, young and wild are caractaristics not going well together without prejudice. Parents keep their young disabled children safe, sometimes too safe. Most teenage friends don't know how to respond to the limitations of a handicap. And a date, a lover or a marriage is just one step too far for the imagination of most people. But sometimes people do fall in love and then they have to face the opinion and prejudice of their family, friends, co-students, colleagues, etcetera. An article of the Telegraaf tells a story of American teenagers falling in love. He is disabled due to a muscular disease and she is a healthy and beautiful young lady. It could be my story 35 years ago.

But most disabled people are not that lucky. After many years they are still not able to find a girl or boy friend. But sometimes love can be found in unexpected places like Thailand. Thai women are very caring and loving. It is still part of their nature. But in return they like you to support their family consisting of their children, parents and sometimes even brothers and sister and their children. The Thai economy is thriving on lonely men looking for a loving, caring partner.

So are you looking for a girl friend? Are you lonely and looking for love? Why not come to Thailand? We have beautiful wheelchair accessible accomodation which will suite your needs of accessiblity and privacy. More information? Contact me by email wheelchairthailand@gmail.com .

Beach wheelchair Thailand Hua Hin

A ling time ago we have imported a beach wheelchair with 4 balloon wheels to take long walks on the beach. People who depend on a wheelchair enjoy these walks along the water very much. Sometimes they even go into the water, but then have difficulties to get out.

But last year we have added a three wheel beach wheelchair which can float. And what happened?Guests of our wheelchair accessible holiday homes go into the sea, float around and get a lovely taint.
And to show you how well it floats, we have shot a small movie of a disabled guest with his permission at Khao Takiab Beach, Hua Hin, Thailand. Thank you, Harri. How long ago was your last dip in the sea?

In Hua Hin we have a private beach wheelchair for our guests. In France the First Aid Posts at the beach in Canet Plage have the same beach wheelchairs available for free. The guards even help you with moving over from your wheelchair. And after you do you can float around in the Mediterranean Sea. And how lovely is that?

Vintage wheels for Wheelchair Thailand in Hua Hin

Last weekend in Hua Hin many vintage cars were visiting Hua Hin. First they were displayed at Venezia, the new amusementparks annex shopping mall. From here they drove in convoy, like a parade to the Centara Grand Hotel in the centre of Hua Hin. And Sunday morning I took a look at these magnificent cars from the past. Like the Mercedes on the picture below.

Some cars weren't that old, but made me feel old. Like the Volkswagen T1 from the sixties. I saw this drive around in my country when I was a child. And the Citroën Pallas, better known as the Snoek (Dutch word for pike) also a Golden Oldie. And the Volkswagen Kever (Beetle).

See for yourself here is a link to my album.

Coming up:
Celebrations of His Majesty Bhumibol Birthday.

Airport power Wheelchair check-in

Have you ever considered travelling with you powered wheelchair? And did you decide to leave it at home because you were afraid the handlers would damage it. Then watch this movie about me and my powered wheelchair preparations at the check-in of Amsterdam Airport Schiphol for my 20th flight to Bangkok Airport Suvarnabhumi. I made this movie as an example. When you want to travel you have to find a way how to prepare your wheelchair.

What do you see?
  • A small toolkit with which you can handle bolds and screws.
  • Tie-raps to tie down cables.
  • Removal of joy stick to prevent damage to steering mechanism.
  • Disconnecting the battery cable underneath.
  • Minimize size of wheelchair. Some airplane loading doors are just 84cm high.
  • Wheelchair parts in bag to prevent them to get soaked in the rain. And less weight in your suite case.
  • Luggage straps to tie down wheelchair parts in bag.
  • Instruction of airport staff how to handle manual breaks and wheelchair during transportation.
Do you have question about how to travel as a disabled? Don't hesitate to email us.

Or read more stories about travelling with a powered wheelchair on my Dutch Blog.

Thailand festivals in wheelchair

In the last post I have written about the Thai festivals and holiday season. One of the main holidays in Thailand is Loi Kratong. The festival of lights. Very luminous, peaceful and serene holiday.
Thai people also make music and sing songs. Have a look at this video made in Hua Hin to see what you can expect when you visit during Loi Kratong on 17 November 2013. Enjoy.

Loking for a wheelchair accessible pool villa to stay during Loi Kratong? Here you will find everything you need.

Loi Krathong takes place on the evening of the full moon of the 12th month in the traditional Thai lunar calendar. In the western calendar this usually falls in November.
Loi means 'to float', while krathong refers to a usually lotus-shaped container which floats on the water. Krathong has no other meaning in Thai besides these decorative floats, so Loi Krathong is very hard to translate, requiring a word describing what a Krathong looks like such as Floating Crown, Floating Boat, Floating Decoration. The traditional krathong are made of the layers of the trunk of a banana tree or a spider lily plant. Modern krathongs are more often made of bread or styrofoam. A bread krathong will disintegrate after a few days and can be eaten by fish. Banana stalk krathong are also biodegradable, but styrofoam krathongs are sometimes banned, as they pollute the rivers and may take years to decompose. A krathong is decorated with elaborately-folded banana leaves, incense sticks, and a candle. A small coin is sometimes included as an offering to the river spirits. On the night of the full moon, Thais launch their krathong on a river, canal or a pond, making a wish as they do so. The festival may originate from an ancient ritual paying respect to the water spirits.

See you in Hua Hin at Loi Kratong.

Wheelchair holiday season

With the holiday season coming up in a few months I like to tell you something about the holidays in Hua Hin. Tourist destinations in Thailand like Hua Hin celebrate all kind of holidays. Not only Thai and / or Buddhist holidays but also Chinese and European holidays. So they celebrate in order European Christmas and New Year at in December, Chinese New Year in February and Thai New Year in April.
But they also celebrate Loi Kratong in November and Makha Bucha in February. And last but not least they celebrate the Kings on 5 December also known as Fathers Day.

We love this Festival season and like to celebrate with and around the locals. It is really fun. It is dry season. And often there is music, good food and sometimes big fireworks.

So November till April is a really great time to visit Hua Hin in Thailand. And even in your wheelchair you can be part of these festivities. Our staff knows where to go, can take you to the best spot and likes to celebrate with you.

Hope to meet you in Hua Hin.

Accessible Bangkok beats London

Bangkok has narrowly beaten London as the world's top tourism destination in terms of visitor arrivals, according to the "MasterCard Global Destination Cities Index 2013". Paris, Singapore and New York fill the next three places.

In Asia, Bangkok is followed in the rankings by Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Hong Kong, Seoul, Shanghai and Tokyo.

The MasterCard study was conducted in 132 cities, with collated data from private and government sectors worldwide from last year through to the end of March this year.

It also collected data on travellers' spending from their arrival in a city destination, as well as cross-border expenditure. It was not based on MasterCard volume or transactional data.

Wheelchair Thailand already roams around in Bangkok since 2006. He knows many accessible places to visit and wheelchair accessible accommodation to extend your holiday. Uncensored review from a happy customer in our pool villa Coconut Grove, Hua Hin, Thailand.

Hello.

After two weeks of vacation the works reminds me... a lot of work.... too little time....

Seriously, we are so VERY pleased with Coconut Grove at Hua Hin! Everything worked

The staf, all included, was there for us, as we felt.

Especially Lek! She made our vacation far over expectation!!!

The taxidriver, he had always a smile in his face! Pernilla, she was so accommodating! I don´t remember the name of the woman who almost always follow the taxidriver and was his translator was so nice!

Particular we would like lift up Leks efforts! She helped me at the hospital, she was so helpful while Joakim get sick,  she was always available and always smiling and glad!!!! She was curious and wants to learn the english language. The whole family almost fell in love with Lek!

If you need references, just ask us! Our english are not the best but we can give your Scandinavian customers a good word.

We are overwhelm over our visit at  Coconut Grove!!!!

Your staf: The taxidriver, the woman who is almost always with him as a translator, Pernilla and Lek, all your staf made our two weeks in your house wonderful. We are in love!!!!

The only complaint we have is that we would like the taxidriver knew English more widely.
