Disabled, young and wild are caractaristics not going well together without prejudice. Parents keep their young disabled children safe, sometimes too safe. Most teenage friends don't know how to respond to the limitations of a handicap. And a date, a lover or a marriage is just one step too far for the imagination of most people. But sometimes people do fall in love and then they have to face the opinion and prejudice of their family, friends, co-students, colleagues, etcetera. It could be my story 35 years ago.

Beach wheelchair Thailand Hua Hin

A ling time ago we have imported a beach wheelchair with 4 balloon wheels to take long walks on the beach. People who depend on a wheelchair enjoy these walks along the water very much. Sometimes they even go into the water, but then have difficulties to get out.

But last year we have added a three wheel beach wheelchair which can float. And what happened?Guests of our wheelchair accessible holiday homes go into the sea, float around and get a lovely taint.
And to show you how well it floats, we have shot a small movie of a disabled guest with his permission at Khao Takiab Beach, Hua Hin, Thailand. Thank you, Harri. How long ago was your last dip in the sea?

 

In Hua Hin we have a private beach wheelchair for our guests. In France the First Aid Posts at the beach in Canet Plage have the same beach wheelchairs available for free. The guards even help you with moving over from your wheelchair. And after you do you can float around in the Mediterranean Sea. And how lovely is that?

Bangkok has narrowly beaten London as the world's top tourism destination in terms of visitor arrivals, according to the "MasterCard Global Destination Cities Index 2013". Paris, Singapore and New York fill the next three places.

In Asia, Bangkok is followed in the rankings by Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Hong Kong, Seoul, Shanghai and Tokyo.

The MasterCard study was conducted in 132 cities, with collated data from private and government sectors worldwide from last year through to the end of March this year.

It also collected data on travellers' spending from their arrival in a city destination, as well as cross-border expenditure. It was not based on MasterCard volume or transactional data.

Ancient temples on wheelchair accessible temple grounds are a perfect scenery to make beautiful pictures. You don't necessarily have to because most of the statues and temples are on postcards.
This is a long trip worthwhile. In Ayutthya you will find over more than ten temples. You will walk a lot and need the car standby. Wheelchair accessible restrooms and toilets can be found along the way. Ask us for details.

From Hua Hin it is a little over 300 km. An early rise and a late arrival back is the consequence but you don't want to miss this during your holiday. We can make arrangements for our guests to this sight. We will make reservations for a wheelchair accessible taxi. And we can book a wheelchair accessible hotel in Bangkok too. Thailand is a country with many shop who provide laundry service. Not only for hotels, guesthouses and restaurants but also for private persons who spend their holiday in Thailand or live here part of the year. These shops wash your cloths and your bed, bath and kitchen linen for just a few Baht.

Most of the time you can find a laundry shop around the corner. Some condominium buildings have their own laundry shop like Tira Tiraa. So you step out the door of our wheelchair accessible apartment, walk down the hall and just around the corner is the laundry shop.

But remember guests of our villa Coconut Grove, our apartment Tira Tiraa and Studio 74 don't have to bring their laundry / clothes to the laundry shop. Our housekeeper is providing this service for free.

With this Blog we try to tell people about the accessibility of Hua Hin in Thailand. And we like to tell people more about adapted accommodations. We would like to start with accessible villas. Accessible vineyard and wines in Hua Hin

When people think of wine they think of France and the worlds most famous wines. No one is thinking of wines produced and bottled in Hua Hin, Thailand. But since 2003 Hua Hin Hills Vineyard is growing grapes and producing wine near Hua Hin. This vineyard is located 35km west of Hua Hin.

After a visit to Wat Huay Mongkol you can drive 16km more west to enjoy a vineyard tour on a elephant, fine Thai tapas and of course their delicious wines. On the terrace of the sala surrounded by vineyards you can spend a laisy afternoon doing nothing. Don't forget to buy some wine to take home.

The restaurant / sala has an access ramp and the terrace is wheelchair accessible. So handicapped people and their travel companions can enjoy this holiday trip together.

The wines are also for sale in their shop on the second floor of Market Village, a big shopping mall in Hua Hin.

We love to take a walk on the beach. We can walk al the way to Khao Takiab, have a drink and some food and then walk all the way back. Or take a walk towards the Hilton hotel, find a nice place to rest, have a massage, a manicure or just watch people having fun at the beach.

For already a long time we know where to find a beach access ramp to start our stroll along the water. The only thing we didn't do was take a picture of one of these ramps. This picture is taken near Chivasom hotel.

Wheelchair accessible local markets Hua Hin

Hua Hin has some nice local markets where the citizens of Hua Hin are shopping for their groceries. The Chat Chai Market is one of these markets where you can shop even when you are disabled. It is located in the centre of Hua Hin just 200 meter from our wheelchair accessible apartment Tira Tiraa.

You can buy fresh fruit, vegetables, fresh and dried fish, shrimp, chicken, meat, clothes, toys and some more. At night local farmers brings their goods into town and early in the morning, around 7 they start to sell their product. It is an all day market. The market closes in the afternoon or when products are sold out.

We love it to shop here. People are friendly and appreciate you buying their products. Sometimes they warn you. Telling you this is no falang food. But when you like to taste different kinds of food don't let them stop you from buying.

Visit this market in the morning. This is when local people are coming to buy their food. But when you are in a wheelchair keep in mind that the paths are narrow. When it is busy you need patience to see this market where women fall asleep behind their stalls and the neighbour is watching their small businesses. It is one of these places to make nice pictures during one of your holidays.

Thailand “copy copy” and the competition

Many people who have visited Thailand for their holidays know Thai people are very well in copying originals. Tourists buy t-shirts, handbags, underwear, etc. and show them off as originals in their home country.

Since 2001 we are in the rental business. Jan has a lifetime experience in being disabled and using a wheelchair. And I, Hanneke, have worked as a policy maker within the Dutch Disabled Association pushing accessible housing and public transport and as a consultant in adapting inaccessible houses. We have used our experiences and our personal savings to set up wheelchair accessible holiday houses in different places. Now we rent out these wheelchair accessible holiday homes to disabled people. We put our hearts and souls into our business. This is what we do best. And over all these years we have had many happy customers.

Sometimes people try to copy. Now we are experiencing the copy act in Hua Hin, Thailand. We have experienced it before in Hungary and France. Our business is copied by resort developers, condo builders and owners of individual houses. We feel proud our houses and our business are used as an example and worth copying. This competition only stimulates our ongoing effort to satisfy our customers. We even wish our competition good luck in starting up their business. Only the future will learn if they will be as successful as we are today.

However a warning is in its place. You are paying a lot of money to make this trip. So make sure you get your holiday of a lifetime.
• Check the accessibility before making reservations. Do you want to be disappointed due to poor access?
• Check the location. Do you want to stay in a place where you are always in need of a car or a taxi?
• Check if the house or resort is finished? Do you want to stay on a building site during your holiday? Or even worse. Do you want to look for another accommodation short before arrival?
• Check the services. What is included in the price? Do you have to pay additional fees for using medical equipment?
