Disabled holidays; sun and rain in Hua Hin

When I am planning our holiday I always take the weather into account. I love sunshine and warm weather. So I like to travel to warm places with lots of sun in the European winter. But when you are living in Australia you probably like to travel in the Australian wintertime, summer in France and rainy season Thailand.

Since I have travel often to Thailand I have experienced all seasons here, winter, summer and rainy season. And surprisingly I found the rainy season not that bad. Most of the time it rain is short heavy showers, sometimes with a lot of wind, but never a hurricane. I'm used to a humid climate in The Netherlands and cold rain. In Hua Hin, Thailand rain is always warm. You get wet, but not cold.

When you plan your holiday it mostly depends on holiday season, school holidays and so on. To help you to find the ideal weather you can consult climate in Hua Hin or any other climate website on the internet.

Location Wheelchair Holidays

In previous Blogpost I already talked about our holiday homes in France, Hungary and Thailand. And often I write about the things we have done. In my wheelchair I experience the same problems as you would when you would visit one of my accommodations. But not only the accommodation needs to be wheelchair accessible, the location is as important as the holiday home itself.

Where do you prefer your holiday accommodation? On top of a mountain, at a remote beach, at the end of a dirt road? Or in town with easy access to amenities and sights? Right. You probably choose the last one. Just like me and anyone else you like to leave the house and drive around in your wheelchair independently. A location where your family or travel companions don't need to push your wheelchair, with restaurants around the corner and shops within walking distance.
When you like what you read have a look at our Maps, publicly shared on Google Maps.

  • The holiday homes in Hua Hin, Thailand. Zoom in and click on the green houses. The apartment is located in the centre of Hua Hin and the pool villa's at the border of the centre. The small wheelchair signs represent the wheelchair accessible toilet and the little yellow suns ramps onto the beach. In Hua Hin is no accessible public transport, but our van can take you where you like to go.
  • The sea is only 700m from our apartment in Canet Plage, France . All amenities are within walking distance. public transport is accessible and the bus stop is only 300m. Airport and TGV train station can be found in Perpignan at 15km and can be reached by bus.
  • Lake Velence, Hungary, partly nature reserve, is only 100m from our detached house in Velence. A small country town with amenities within walking distance. A nice location for families with younger children and or seniors. Accessible trains run up and down Budapest. Departure from Velence Station at 2km.
Below here one of our maps. Hua Hin, Thailand. Last updated 24 December 2013.

Birthday coming up for WheelchairThailand Hua Hin.

Birthdays. They happen every year and every year we get one year older. In December King Bhumibol is celebrating his birthday on December 5. Hua Hin people are preparing.
Hua Hin People Love our King.
The female part of Wheelchair Thailand celebrates her birthday on December 7. And in The Netherlands we celebrate the birthday of Sinterklaas on December 6 with gifts for the children on the evening before.

But the birthday party for the King beats every festivity in Hua Hin. At the moment the King lives in Hua Hin and many military is coming to Hua Hin, streets are decorated and lit and bulletin boards announce a party.

Velence, Hungary, roll in village

Most people know Hungary from its Gulyash and Budapest, the capital. Velence and Lake Velence is widely known for the recreational possibilities under Hungarian people. Hungary doesn't have beaches at a sea or ocean. It has lakes and rivers to enjoy.
And above wheelchair access in Hungary and in Velence is increasing very rapidly. The trains to Budapest and the Lake Balaton are wheelchair accessible with level entrance to the trains at Velence Station. So you have an easy ride to Buapest. The station is located at 2km from the adapted holiday home for disabled with roll in shower from Gehandicapten.com. You can either walk / ride or drive your car and park at the parking for free.

Are you curious? You like to meet Velence and Lake Velence and see what they have to offer you when you come here for an accessible holiday? Take a look at my new photoalbum. These pictures are taken during a stroll in Velence and Lake Velence and a short car ride along the lakeside villages. Below is one of these pictures.

Accessible Bangkok beats London

Bangkok has narrowly beaten London as the world's top tourism destination in terms of visitor arrivals, according to the "MasterCard Global Destination Cities Index 2013". Paris, Singapore and New York fill the next three places.

In Asia, Bangkok is followed in the rankings by Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Hong Kong, Seoul, Shanghai and Tokyo.

The MasterCard study was conducted in 132 cities, with collated data from private and government sectors worldwide from last year through to the end of March this year.

It also collected data on travellers' spending from their arrival in a city destination, as well as cross-border expenditure. It was not based on MasterCard volume or transactional data.

Wheelchair Thailand already roams around in Bangkok since 2006. He knows many accessible places to visit and wheelchair accessible accommodation to extend your holiday. Mainly in Hua Hin, but also in other parts of Thailand. And he has also information about wheelchair access of the public transport. WheelchairThailand Hua Hin, see man or woman?

An half year ago Jan and I were looking for some entertainment at night in Bangkok. Wherever you stay you can find entertainment. Bars, puppet show, dance and dinner show, cultural show, girls and lady boys, etc. We wanted to see a show and went to the Asia Hotel in Phaya Thai, Bangkok. Sadly enough this theater was not wheelchair accessible.
This time we had a look in our travel guide book of Bangkok. Found a name of a show and looked it up at internet. And yes the show has moved to another location and the location, Asiatique, and the theater, Calypso, is wheelchair accessible. So we booked tickets online and drove there early saturday evening. Staff took great care of us and guided us to the elevator and the theater to our seats. Access for wheelchairs and people with recuded mobility is assured.

And what a night we had. Lots of international restaurants to choose from, many shops with beautiful and classy merchandise, bars with live music, boulevard along the Chao Praya River and the Calypso theater. We had a great time. We can recommend the show and ask you now: "Did you see men or women?"
