Beach wheelchair Thailand Hua Hin

A ling time ago we have imported a beach wheelchair with 4 balloon wheels to take long walks on the beach. People who depend on a wheelchair enjoy these walks along the water very much. Sometimes they even go into the water, but then have difficulties to get out.

But last year we have added a three wheel beach wheelchair which can float. And what happened?Guests of our wheelchair accessible holiday homes go into the sea, float around and get a lovely taint.
And to show you how well it floats, we have shot a small movie of a disabled guest with his permission at Khao Takiab Beach, Hua Hin, Thailand. Thank you, Harri. How long ago was your last dip in the sea?

 

In Hua Hin we have a private beach wheelchair for our guests. In France the First Aid Posts at the beach in Canet Plage have the same beach wheelchairs available for free. The guards even help you with moving over from your wheelchair. And after you do you can float around in the Mediterranean Sea. And how lovely is that?

News for disabled on holiday in Thailand

A year has gone and and new year has begun. And now WheelchairThailand likes to tell you about the changes realized in 2012. These changes allow you to have a holiday of a lifetime in Hua Hin, Thailand.

Our second pool villa was bought in 2012. After a serious reconstruction and renovation this pool villa is wheelchair accessible througout. A modern interior design in combination with Thai art gives this pool villa its own caracter. You will feel at home within a day.

This holiday homes in the Land of Smiles has 3 wheelchair accessible bedrooms and 2 bathrooms with roll in shower. Each bedroom has at least one hospital bed integrated in the normal beds. In the bathrooms have a drop down shower seat and drop down grips. More informationon the website of Gehandicapten.com .

This luxury villa is located at only 30 meters of the first holiday home. Both houses together can accommodate 12 adults at the same time of which 8 wheelchair users. So a group of friends, more than one family or disabled living in care resorst can enjoy the friendly service of Thai people during a adventurous holidays.

Our guest book in this holiday home is our guide to improvement. So once a while we update our pool villa according their wishes. This time we have changed / renewed the pool hoist with a comfortable seat with drop down armrests. The seat can be adjusted to wheelchair seat height.

A new wash basin, imported from Europe and designed for wheelchair users, has been installed in the wheelchair accessible bathroom. A tap with one long handle is within easy reach of those with a reduced arm and hand function.

On top of the desk in the living room a printer has been installed which can be used for free by our guests.

Medical equipment
Guests staying in our houses could already use our manual adjustable hoist. Now guests can also use our electric hoist with different kind of slings adjustable with clips or loops.

Mobility scooters
Many disabled people travel with only their manual wheelchair although travelling with an electric wheelchair is possible. But we have a solution. Mobility scooter are for rent now in Hua Hin. Staff
Our staff is great and gives excellent service. Our general manager, the housekeeper in our first pool villa and the cleaning lady in our apartment welcomed a welcomed a fourth staff member, the housekeeper for the second pool villa. Every staff member stays in close touch with our general manager.
And we have welcomed our steady driver who drives our guests from the airport to Hua Hin and back. He enjoy taking guests on trips and tours in and around Hua Hin.

Wheelchair Thailand alias Gehandicapten.com keeps adding new medical equipment. This time a passive hoist, which will automatically find the point of balance of the caretaker, providing him or her with a high feeling of comfort and safety.
On request our staff will provide you with all the equipment you need. We have hoists, passive and active. Pool hoist in every accommodation in Hua Hin. Three kind of shower wheelchairs / commodes. Three different beach wheelchairs. Ramps, grips, toilet seat raisers, shower stretcher, monkey poles, etc.

Disabled people who make a reservation in on of our accommodations in Hua Hin, Thailand can use this equipment for free.

In March Wheelchair Thailand Hua Hin alias Gehandicapten.com aquired the second pool villa on the project Coconut Grove on Soi 102 in Hua Hin, Thailand.

During July and August the house will be renovated and adapted to the use of wheelchair travellers. In September the house get a modern decoration in white, red and greys.

The pool villa will have three wheelchair accessible bedrooms, two wheelchair accessible bathrooms, a spacious livingroom, a huge veranda and a big terrace. And don't forget the luxury of the accessible pool and whirlpool.

All kinds of medical equipment will be present and use will be for free. The most common items are a shower wheelchair, electrical hoist, manual pool hoist, hospital beds in all bedrooms, grips, shower seats, monkey poles, special wash basins and an absolutely fantastic beach wheelchair.

With two pool villas in the same project we are able to accommodate groups up to twelve people. And our wheelchair accessible minivan can transfer up to 4 wheelchair users and 5 additional people including luggage. An additional normal taxi or minivan can transfer more disabled people. Vans are also available for trips and tours.

The pool villa will be available for rent starting October 1, 2012. We already take bookings for the next high season 2012 - 2013. We give a discount of 5% on bookings done before July 15, 2012 for stays in October, November and December 2012. Minimum stay of 14 nights. Discount code is Baan Nam.

Review of Australian guest in Accessible Holidays Apartment

A review of our Australian guest in wheelchair accessible Apartment. He travelled with his Thai wife and daughter. We like to thank him for this review and hope to meet him again in Hua Hin.

Travel! Just do it!

If you have a disability, especially one requiring a wheelchair, the trepidation and anxiety that can fill your mind can be enough to put you off going anywhere.

Even when you do commit it’s hard to muster that natural excitement you should be allowed when going abroad. On the flipside the rewards for ‘just doing it!’ can be well worth it and to get some peace of mind before setting off- Research!

My recent trip to Hua Hin in Thailand was wonderful and it came down to the homework I did. You are not the only one in the world with a disability who wants to enjoy their life. Duh!  I found a couple from Holland who have a villa and an apartment in Hua Hin that I could rest assured was wheelchair accessible as he needs it to be as he has muscular atrophy. And they have thought of everything from roll-in showers, electric beds, private pool hoist, air-con, beach wheelchairs, portable ramps, airport transfers and transport in an accessible van right through to recommending a competent nursing agency that can assist anyone who requires it.

Hua Hin itself is a quite laid back and mellow town when compared to Bangkok, Pattaya or Phuket. It is where the King lives and where many Thai people themselves choose to holiday. Thai hospitality in my opinion is unsurpassed and Hua Hin is a non-threatening place not so renowned for sex tourism as other places. The healthy fresh seafood and Thai offerings are a sumptuous delight and combined with swimming and massages I left with more vitality than I arrived with no doubt.

Not all the shops are accessible and the curbs can be high but if cautious you can just use the roads and find the places you can get into, like wonderful restaurants on stilts where the water is lapping under you and the seafood is still alive in brine tanks nearby. That’s fresh! Go onto the jetty and watch the boats come in or right near the apartment you have the night market for shopping and more eateries. Don’t be afraid to get a real cheap feed from the street vendors either- satay sticks, dried and rolled flat squid and banana roti’s or corn on the cob with spiced sugar, Thai grapefruit with a sugar/chili blend. Yum!

I write this for anyone who thinks of travelling but lets the perceived difficulties get in their way. Yes things can go wrong and awkward moments may arise but that goes for anybody disabled or not. The comforts of home are great but so are the experiences to be had away from your own doorstep.

Wheelchair accessible van manufacturer Bangkok

Since 2005 I have been visiting Thailand for many times. And all these times I have been travelling with a taxi with driver. Thailand doesn't know wheelchair accessible vans. So normaly I take ramps with me, ask a driver to take out a seat and make some space for my wheelchair. No floor fixings for my wheelchair, only the seat in front of me to hold me in case anything happens. This is not the way we are used to in Europe.

The traffic in Thailand is so intense, so dense and dangerous that I don't want to travel on the road anymore with these kind of threats. After 6 years I found a very professional company in Bangkok who is able to fit a wheelchair ramp, wheelchair fixings and removable seats. So now I couldn't resist to buy my own Toyota Commuter Van and get it adapted at the moment I speak. And when this is finished I can take my accessible van and go with friends, fellow wheelchair users or just my beach wheelchair and travel safe on the roads in Thailand.

Wheelchair repair of flat tire

Every time I come to Thailand I prepare my wheelchair the best I can to prevent it from braking down during my stay overhere. But sometimes I'm not that lucky and get a flat tire. The first time when this happened I was drinking beer in a street corner cafe. At that time I felt really disabled. Waiting in bed for my wife coming back with the tire. The people from the cafe offered their help the next morning and took my wife together with my tire to a road side bike repair shop. They were able to repair the tire but not to inflate it with air. So we walked down the street to the next shop. Here they were able to repair my tire. Imagine, Sunday morning, 9am, my tire been repaired within ten minutes for 20 Baht / 40 Eurocent. Unbelievable. And they say thank you and even smile to you. Because they know they have charged you double. But we where both happy with this arrangement.

So in case you have a flat tire go to a shop closeby and point out your problem. They will solve the problem before you know it.

Beach access ramps, Hua Hin, Thailand

We love to take a walk on the beach. We can walk al the way to Khao Takiab, have a drink and some food and then walk all the way back. Or take a walk towards the Hilton hotel, find a nice place to rest, have a massage, a manicure or just watch people having fun at the beach.

For already a long time we know where to find a beach access ramp to start our stroll along the water. The only thing we didn't do was take a picture of one of these ramps. This picture is taken near Chivasom hotel.

Accessible Suan Son Beach

January 24, 2007. Suan Son Beach. Halfway Khao Tao and Khao Takiab behind a military base. It is a beautiful beach with lots of shade and a nice accessible restaurant. The beach has level access and pine trees. The sand underneath these trees is loose but a little bit closer to the water the sand is firm. Even handicapped people in wheelchairs can stroll along the sea.

This movie is taken at Suan Son Beach. It shows how firm the sand is and the beach wheelchair which can be used to take disabled people into the sea. You can hire a beach chair or a tube. In the restaurant you can buy some simple food, a drink or a snack at the counter.

During weekdays the beach is quit. In the weekend Thai people come here to "swim" with all their clothes on and picknick or have a drink with their family. In case you like to watch people you can sure enjoy yourself for a few hours. Have fun and don't forget to take a dip in the shallow water.
