Grocery shopping in Hua Hin, Thailand

Dutch people are like all other people in the world. We like our Dutch food. So when we can we take cheese, chocolate sprinklers, liquorice, etc. English people take their tea. And more examples are possible.

But there is no need to take these groceries. Hua Hin has 4 supermarkets, few bakeries, some butchers and wineries. But don't forget to visit the local markets for fresh fruit and vegetables, fish, chicken, meat, herbs, spices, etc.

The supermarkets are:

Big C Supermarket, Pa La U Road, Hua Hin, Thailand
Tesco Lotus in Market Village with a great selection of fresh vegetables, meat fish, bread, etc.
Villa Market, great wine selection.
G Hua Hin supermarket, for Chinese and Thai ingredients but also Dutch Coffee.
Big C with French products of the Casino brand.
And a small supermarket located within the shopping mall in the centre of Hua Hin.

Products of Casino brand in Big C Supermarket.

Tesco Lotus Supermarket is within 1.5 km form the wheelchair accessible holiday pool villas Coconut and Si Deang.

Villa Market is in the centre of Hua Hin.

G Hua Hin Supermarket is close to the wheelchair accessible apartment Tira Tiraa.

And Big C is within 5 minutes bike ride of Studio 74.

All supermarkets or the building where they are located have wheelchair accessible restrooms except G Hua Hin and the small supermarket. And they all have parking space for cars and motorbikes.

Bang Pa In Palace and handcraft centre

March 4, 2011
Bang Pa In, Handcraft centre

It has been a month since we wrote our last post. We have been visiting our wheelchair accessible apartment in France and afterwards our detached bungalow for wheelchair users in Veelence, Hungary. Both accommodations are ready for the new season. so time to write on our Blog about our experiences.

Since we have a wheelchair accessible van for transfers and trips of our guests we have been using it to visit some places. One of these is Bang Pa In Palace and the handcraft center.

The palace is beautiful. It is partly wheelchair accessible but they don't have ramps into the buidlings or an accessible restroom. The staff of the park was so kind to show us the ground floor toilets of the staff, which were accessible with some help. Paths are not always comfortable, but it is worthwhile. Take a look on your way to the temples in Ayutthaya.

Another nice option to visit is the handcraft center in Bang Pa In. A beautiful Thai style building is accommodating a big hand craft shop which sells purses, glassware, fabrics, clothes, furniture, etc., etc. Next this building you will find the workshops where all these items are made. The are open in the front and the artist don't mind you taking a look. On the premises you will also find a aquarium of fresh water fish which can be found in Thai rivers and lakes. And a few big brid cages whith Thai birds. All wheelchair accessible. But don't expect a wheelchair accessible toilet.

In case you depend on a wheelchair accessible toilet you can find one at the exit of the toll way from Bangkok to Bang Pa In and at one of the temples in Ayutthaya. More info about locations of sights on our map.

Accessible restaurants in Hua Hin

September 24, 2010.
Hua Hin Center.

Downtown Hua Hin many good seafood restaurants are located on Naresdamri Road. The restaurant in the picture is Sangthai Seafood. One out of two restaurants which are frequently visited by Thai, foreigners, falang and tourists.

They have great seafood. We like the fried sun dried squid, the charcoal grilled tiger prawn, steamed fish in lemon sauce, fish fillet in curry, etc.

The service is good. The waiters and waitresses keep an eye on you and your table. They refill your glass, they serve complementary fruit at the end and the people are friendly.

The accessibility of the restaurant is perfect. And since a little while they even have a wheelchair accessible restroom. The first restaurant in this street who saw the potential of more customers. And for this they deserve at least one visit of every wheelchair using person.

Where to find Sangthai Seafood? Coming from Tira Tiraa wheelchair accessible apartment you walk, 100 meters, towards Soi 70. Turn left onto Soi 70 and walk down to Petchkasem road, 160 meter. Cross the road and continue walking on Soi 55. All the way down to the sea, 350 meter. You will see Sangthai seafood in front of you.

There are more wheelchair accessible restaurants. You can have a look at the pictures of these restaurants and even see where they are located.

Have a nice diner.

Are paragolfers with handicap welcome?

Source picture: http://premiumproducts.ottobock.com

Almost every golf course in Hua Hin is joining the Hua Hin Golf festival during the month of August. In this month the participating golf courses give discount on their normal fees. I don't know anything about golf. I don't play. I didn't even visit a golf course in Hua Hin. I just know they have a handicap. Doesn't matter, I'm disabled too.

I do know that the Royal Hua Hin golf course, opened in 1924, is at walking distance of our wheelchair accessible apartment Tira Tiraa. This 18th hole golf course is a natural beauty. Every fairway is surrounded by big trees. The entrance of the golf course is located in the centre of Hua Hin near the railway station.
The practice field of this golf course, putting green?, is located next to Tira Tiraa, at the other side of the railway. Have fun.

Do you know the answer to the question: "Are paragolfers with handicap welcome?". Please write your answer in a comment on this Blog.

Wheelchair accessible local markets Hua Hin

Hua Hin has some nice local markets where the citizens of Hua Hin are shopping for their groceries. The Chat Chai Market is one of these markets where you can shop even when you are disabled. It is located in the centre of Hua Hin just 200 meter from our wheelchair accessible apartment Tira Tiraa.

You can buy fresh fruit, vegetables, fresh and dried fish, shrimp, chicken, meat, clothes, toys and some more. At night local farmers brings their goods into town and early in the morning, around 7 they start to sell their product. It is an all day market. The market closes in the afternoon or when products are sold out.

We love it to shop here. People are friendly and appreciate you buying their products. Sometimes they warn you. Telling you this is no falang food. But when you like to taste different kinds of food don't let them stop you from buying.

Visit this market in the morning. This is when local people are coming to buy their food. But when you are in a wheelchair keep in mind that the paths are narrow. When it is busy you need patience to see this market where women fall asleep behind their stalls and the neighbour is watching their small businesses. It is one of these places to make nice pictures during one of your holidays.
